Believes The Question Is: Do The Figures Of Lee And Jackson Look Like Them?

TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING SUN-Sir:

I have been reading the near-fight between the North and the South in the letter column. I believe the question is, Do the figures of Gen. Robert E. Lee and General Jackson look like they looked? Have they been modeled from good pictures of these really great men, whether they are Yankees or rebels?

General Lee and General Jackson were great• warriors and truly great men.

Their statues should look like them. They were not comedians. And if any. one thinks so, then tell me why the war lasted four years?

I protest against our parks being used for any person’s imaginary image. A statue should be true to life.

What does it matter where my people fought in ’61 to ’65? In case you think I am dodging the issue, my father had one brother, Edward K. Burke, a Yankee.

My father served with and under Col. David McIntosh. My father described him as a gentleman, the soul of honor, and a soldier who knew no fear. My father taught us that the war is over.

MRS. EMILY BURK KOLN.
