LEE AND JACKSON MODEL GOES TO N.Y.

Mrs. Fraser, Contest Winner, Ready For Work On Actual Statue

The working model of a proposed statue of Generals R. E. Lee and Thomas Jonathan Jackson on the eve of their departure from Chancellorsville, which won for Mrs. Gardin Fraser the coveted honor of making the statue to stand in Wyman Park over half a dozen competitors, is being removed to her New York studios today, and work upon the actual monument is expected to begin soon.

There have been numerous objections to the monument as judged from the model, and many of these will be given consideration in the making of the full-sized statue, according to Roland J. McKinney, director of the Baltimore Museum of Art.

Mr. McKinney Explains

However, Mr. McKinney said that it was virtually impossible to work out all the details of the memorial in a thirty-six-inch model and said that the details would be ironed out suitably in the sculpting of the actual monument.

Three workmen from Mrs. Fraser’s a own studio arrived here early today and set about dismantling the model s and loading it on a van they brought with them for return to New York. After all parts had been carefully packed in burlap and padding, the truck began its trip.

The memorial, which will cost in the neighborhood of $100,000 and which was provided for in the will of the late S. Henry Ferguson, is expected to be completed and erected on its site here in the spring of 1938.
