Confederate leaders merit no memorial

MOTIVATED BY THE ARTICLE about the effort to move former Chief Justice Roger B. Taney’s bust in Frederick (“Taney’s tainted legacy,” July 17), I would like to suggest that Baltimore remove the statues of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson from the park next to the Baltimore Museum of Art.

Neither of these men deserves a statue in a modern, integrated city such as Baltimore.

Their actions supported slavery, caused the deaths of many people and nearly destroyed our country.

The statues should be removed immediately.
