Josephus Daniels: The Raleigh News & Observer · Oct 14, 2007

And Daniels, too?

Regarding your article Oct. 6 about Gov. Charles B. Aycock:

So the late governor was a product of the racial mores of the 19th century?

What a surprise. Did someone remind State Treasurer Richard Moore and the Rev. William Barber that the man who founded your newspaper, Josephus Daniels, was a racist and white supremacist? Funny, I haven’t heard any demands that his name and quote cease their daily appearance on your pages.

But, of course, the governor’s name must be removed from the title of a state Democratic Party function! Yes, let’s once again rewrite history. And just leave out the fact that Aycock was one of many segregationist Democrats making life difficult for blacks in the 1800s.
