DECISION OF THE SUPREME COURT IN THE DRED SCOTT CASE

We are at length in possession of the decision of the Supreme Court upon the various points which were raised in the famous Dred Scott case. Judge Taney, in person, delivered the opinion of the Court. The important points thus decided cover the principal issues heretofore existing between the North and the South. The Supreme Court declares : —

That negroes, whether bond or free, are not citizens of the United States, under the Constitution.

That the adoption of the Constitution rendered null and void the Ordinance of 1787.

That the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional.
