Roger B. Taney Newspaper: Knoxville Weekly Whig· Aug 8, 1865

Knoxville Weekly Whig· Aug 8, 1865

Some of the meanest partizans and most corrupt men in the country occupy the exalted position of Judge. Appointed for life, while falsely and hypocritically claiming to be hostile to the enemies of the country, these men betray the trust confided to them and avail themselves of every opportunity to aid the enemies of the friends of the government.

The late Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, Roger B. Taney, was a corrupt partizan and bad man. When he died not many months ago, a heart ceased to beat whose every pulsation was in unison with bloody-handed slavery and rebellion.
