IN HONOR OF MAURY

Y. M. H. A. Approves Plan to Have Special Day for Memory of “Pathfinder of the Seas.”

The Young Men’s Hebrew Association yesterday afternoon indorsed the Matthew Fontaine Maury Day movement, designed to commemorate the name and fame of Matthew Fontaine Maury, cartographer and one of the greatest of marine scientists.

The subject was presented to the association by Gaston Lichtenstein, corresponding secretary of the Matthew Fontaine Maury Association, who explained that it is the desire of the association to have the geography hour in the schools set aside on occasion, so that the children may learn more about the life and history of the man whose deep-sea soundings made possible the connecting of two continents by a cable.
