Whatever the result shall be, and we believe that victors for White Supremacy is assured, the Democratic party awaits it with the high consciousness of having done all that any political party may hope to do for a State, Against terrific odds and against corruption and self-interest, strong in high places and entrenched in the ignorance of 120,000 voters banded. by color to do hurt to white civilization, the Democratic Party has waged battle, unwavering in its confidence that the citizens of the State would see the light, and seeing support, it. It has made no trades, sanctioned no truces, contracted no alliances, but has fought resolutely and uncompromisingly for a civilization that had already begun to wither “even as a bud bit by an envious worm.” The White Man’s Party has done its part. What do you as a white man propose to do?

Let no one suppose that the race issue will down. There in and there can be but one solution of the problem. The white man proposes to rule, and he will rule. He will rule peaceably if he can, he will rule forcibly, it he must. For that necessity the Anglo-Saxons of this State are not responsible. The race issue is not of their making. American citizenship was not so prostituted by hem as to confer it on ignorant millions ognizant of not even the first glimmmerings of what citizenship means. For the hideous mistake made, they are not responsible. Now and always, they refuse to abide by the consequences, when the consequences include negro rule. To the negro they extend the privilege of sharing their civilization, the protection of their just laws, the blessings of liberty and enlightenment. To him they deny the opportunity to hold office over them, to hamper progress, to blight civilization, to make the ordinary life of the citizen a nightmare, to distract attention from the effort at upbuilding to the protection of a mean and meagre existence.

This is not the attitude of the Democratic party merely. It is the attitude of the Anglo-Saxon race. The Democratic party, recognizing this attitude, and perceiving clearly the dangers that threaten, has apppealed to the white men of all parties to come together and obviate the clash that in sure to come if negro domination is continued. There is menace in the situation, menace to this State and to other States. Thoughtful

men recognize it, conservative men pray that it may be averted. The danger stands rooted, not in politics but in racial instincts, as fixed and ineradicable as the color of the skin.

In this campaign the Democratic party has counselled lawful and pacific measures. It has sought a remedy wholly within the bounds of the law. It has appealed to love of white civilization, not to hatred of the negro. There is no hatred of the negro, save only when he kindles the fires by hid own overt actions. The white men of the South have been uniformly considerate of, and even affectionate toward, the negro, because they recognized both his good qualities and his weaknesses. And now, for his good no less than for the good of the white race, they propose in this State to restore Anglo-Saxon rifle.

This is what the ballot of Tuesday is to decide. It is difficult to see how any white man of patriotic impulses can vote any other than the White Man’s ticket. It is difficult to understand how any man of ordinary intelligence can fail to grasp the meaning and gravity of the political situation as it exists.

It behooves the white men everywhere i to face the situation, coolly, but unflinchingly. Undoubtedly there will be an attempt in many quarter to perpetrate fraud at the polls. It should not be permitted, be the result what it may. Nothing but fraud can save the negroizers from defeat. They recognize it, and are prepared to employ this fast means of perpetuating a rule and condition already repudiated in the hearts and minds of

North Carolinians. Let every white man see to it that in the they are balked.

North Carolina must be redeemed. Tuesday is the day when it must be done.
