A Good Sign

The State Journal notes as a good sign that since the enunciation of the Dred Scott decision by Judge Taney, and the proceedings before Judge Leavitt and U. S. Commissioner Newhall in the slave hunt cases in Clark and Champaign counties, three distiuguished ex Judges of the Supreme Court of Ohio, viz, Judge Warden, Judge Caldwell, and Judge John A. Corwin, have openly denounced the correctness and the policy of such law and such proceedings. They were always “Democrats” when that term meant something more than it does now; for as now constructed and acted upon, it means the hunting of negroes and the suppression of liberty. In a word, it is the rankest kind of the rankest federalism.
