TO CONFEDERATE WOMEN
Replica Of Monument May Be Erected In Maryland.
MRS. ROSENBERG’S FINE OFFER
Tells United Daughters Of Confederacy She Will Contribute $500.
Election Of Delegates.
At a meeting of the Baltimore Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, yesterday afternoon at Lehmann’s Hall, at which Mrs. John P. Poe presided, Mrs. Mollie McGill Rosenberg called the attention of the chapter to the proposed monument to be erected to the memory of the women of the Confederacy-the mothers and daughters who actively assisted the cause and made many noble sacrifices. She said the original monument would be erected by the joint chapters, probably in Richmond, and would be beautiful and significant.
“It has been practically decided by 13 of the Southern States to erect a replica in each State, and it has been suggested that chapters in Maryland do like wise,” continued Mrs. Rosenberg. The suggestion was very favorably received by the 75 or more members present. and several were of the opinion that the expense, which it is said would be about $3,500, could be met by each member pledging herself to raise $5. Some of those present seemed to hesitate to assume such a responsibility, and a bazar was suggested. At this point Mrs. Rosenberg arose and offered a personal contribution of $500, which was received with tremendous applause.
While the sentiment after this encouragement seemed unanimous in favor of erecting the replica, it was deemed wise to take no further action until a larger meeting of the chapter could be had.
Aside from this subject, the only other question of importance to be considered was the election of delegates to the fourteenth annual convention of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, to be held at Norfolk from November 13 to 17.
