TO HONOR BRAVE WOMEN
Monument To Be Erected To Maryland Confederate Heroines.
RECORDS ARE BEING SOUGHT
Committees Named By Three Societies To Work Up The Details Of The Proposed Memorial.
The Maryland division of the United Confederate Veterans and the Army and Navy Society of the Confederate States in the State of Maryland has determined to take similar action to that already taken by the other Southern States by erecting a memorial to the Confederate women of Maryland.
It has also been decided that Maryland should have its own, special design for a monument. The Maryland Division United Daughters of the Confederacy has been requested to act as an auxiliary in this movement, and committees have been appointed from the three organizations for a conference.
From the Maryland Division United Confederate Veterans the following committee has been appointed: Major W. M. Pegram, Messrs. Bartlett S. Johnston, Scott, Thomas B. Gresham and Col. H. Ashton Ramsay. The committee from the Army and Navy Society Confederate States in Maryland will be: Mr. James R. Wheeler, Major W. Stuart Symington, Lieut. McHenry Howard, Lieut. Joseph Packard and Mr. Charles T. Crane. The Maryland Division United Daughters of
the Confederacy will be represented by Mrs. D. Giraud Wright, Mrs. F. S. Oden-heimer, Mrs. Charles Marshall, Mrs. Thomas Baxton Cresnam, Mrs. William Reed, Mrs.
E. S. Beall and Mrs. George T. M. Gibson.
Mrs. D. Giraud Wright, chairman of the committee of the Maryland Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, has issued the following bulletin:
“Owing to the many years that have elapsed since the war, it has been impossible to obtain complete or correct lists of the noble women who worked and suffered for the cause during those days, and doubtless many who were in the forefront of service have been omitted. A preliminary meeting of such as could be gathered at short notice was called, but the committee is anxious that, as far as possible, none shall be forgotten, and a brief account of the service rendered be sent to the committee or to Mrs. Wright, the chairman. This should be done before the autumn, as a general meeting will then be called.”
